Tanzania

With over a quarter of its total area set aside for National Parks and Game Reserves, Tanzania boasts some of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Safaris in the northern area include travel though the Serengeti – world famous for the annual wildebeest and zebra migration, Ngorongoro Crater – designated a World Heritage site, and Lake Manyara and Tarangire.

The snow-capped peaks of the Mt. Kilimanjaro together with Mt, Meru are ever-present in this part of Tanzania, offering daunting challenges to those brave enough to climb the heights.

In the less well- known southern area of Tanzania lie the national parks of the Selous, one of the largest game reserves in the world, Ruaha and Mikumi, all offering wonderful safari experiences in less travelled areas.

Other areas of stunning beauty like the Udzungwa Mountains, Katavi, Mahale and Gombe (where Jane Goodall worked with chimpanzees) offer exciting experiences for the intrepid traveller.

The southern coast offers long, secluded sandy beaches. Several offshore islands also offer wonderful beaches and a variety of water sports, including excellent scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, the largest of these islands offers glimpse into a bygone age with its narrow streets and strong Arab influence.

There are more than 120 tribes in Tanzania reflecting a rich cultural diversity. Although Kiswahili is the national language spoken by all tribes in Tanzania, English is widely spoken throughout the country.
