African Impressions – A Kenya / Tanzania Safari

An ideal safari for those who want to combine Kenya and Tanzania! It includes, the cosmopolitan city of Nairobi, the famous Masai Mara, the Great Rift Valley and its lakes, Amboseli situated at the foothills of the highest mountain in Africa — Mount Kilimanjaro, with its herds of elephants, Ngorongoro Crater where some of the world’s last black rhino’s are sheltered and Manyara famous for its birdlife and tree climbing lions.
DAY 1 – NAIROBI
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your Nairobi Hotel, situated within the city centre. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 2 – NAIROBI
After breakfast depart for a guided city tour of Nairobi, including a visit to the Giraffe center and Karen Blixen museum. Time to relax at your hotel before being taken to the Carnivore Restaurant for a welcome dinner.

DAY 3 – MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Depart after breakfast driving through the ever-changing countryside to traverse the Great Rift Valley and ascend its western rim into the Masai land arriving at your Camp in time for a late lunch. Take an afternoon game drive to view the large variety of wildlife to be found here.

DAY 4 – MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
A full day with morning and afternoon game drives in this spectacular game reserve, all with superb photographic opportunities. The most spectacular feature is the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the plains of Serengeti that cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Mara’s grasslands from late June, tracked by predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and circled by vultures as the journey unfolds. Apart from the seasonal migration, game viewing is excellent year round. Game includes: – elephant, Black Rhino, buffalo, wildebeest, Burch ell’s zebra, hartebeest, various antelope and gazelle, lion, leopard, giraffe, elephant cheetah, hippo, crocodile and much more.

DAY 5 – LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Breakfast at your lodge before driving to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrrive at your Lodge in time for lunch. Then drive out to see the flamingoes, pelicans and other bird life on the lake and to seek out some of the resident wildlife including both black and white rhino.

DAY 6 – AMBOSELI
In the morning your drive takes you south towards Nairobi and continues on to Amboseli National Park, located in the foothills of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. At 19,680-foot-Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and its snow-capped peaks preside over the landscape. Enjoy a late afternoon game-drive to seek out the herds of elephant and other wildlife to be found here.

DAY 7 – AMBOSELI
Morning and afternoon game drives offer great photo opportunities with the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro. The park offers a wide variety of wildlife but the principal attraction is its vast herds of elephant within the park. The run off from the snows of Mt Kilimanjaro bring water to this region, causing swamp areas where wildlife including the elephants come to bathe. The bull elephants here have some of the largest tusks in Kenya. Other wildlife includes: hippo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, leopard, caracal and serval cat. The park also has a rich bird that includes ibis, egret, avocet, common and saddle-billed stork, secretary bird, heron, vultures, ducks, and geese.

DAY 8 – NGORONGORO CRATER
After breakfast drive to the Kenya / Tanzania border post of Namanga where you clear customs and immigration formalities before driving on to Arusha. After a stop for lunch your journey continues on through the Ngorongoro Highlands to your lodge, situated on the rim of the crater. The crater covers over 250 square kilometres (over 100 square miles) of land and is the home of the rare black rhino, prides of lion, elephant, cheetah and great herds of buffalo, antelope and wildebeest.

DAY 9 – NGORONGORO CRATER
After an early breakfast, descend 600m (0ver 2000 feet) to the floor of the crater for a half day- tour. Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkey and elephant, the lake area, where you may see the flamingos and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food. Return to the Lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the view over the crater.

DAY 10 – SERENGETI
After breakfast drive to Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeological discoveries. Their findings include some of the man’s earliest known ancestral remains. After a guided tour of the site, continue to Serengeti National Park enjoying a game drive en route to you Lodge. This enormous park supports a lareg variety of animals – from large predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah to the smaller herbivores they prey on.

DAY 11 – SERENGETI
A full day to explore the vast plains of the Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. More than two million wildebeest, Thompson’s gazelle and zebra travel across the region in search of food during the migration, attracting a great deal of attention from their predators such as lion, hyena, cheetah and leopard.

DAY 12 – LAKE MANYARA
After breakfast drive to Lake Manyara National Park, famous for its prolific birdlife and other inhabitants such as hippos, monkeys and sometimes tree-climbing lions. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch the enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive you explore this lovely National Park.

DAY 13 – DEPART
After breakfast drive to Arusha, and visit the Arusha cultural center for last minute shopping before having lunch at the Arusha Hotel. At a suitable time transfer to the airport.
